Balanced forces are equal in size and opposite in direction, so the Resultant Force is zero. The object stays at rest or moves at constant speed in a straight line.

Unbalanced forces occur when opposing forces are not equal. The object then speeds up, slows down, or changes direction.

Typical lesson examples compare driving force with resistive forces such as Drag Force and Friction.
