Energy is the ability to do work or cause change. It exists in many forms — kinetic, thermal, chemical, gravitational potential, electrical — and is conserved (never created or destroyed, only transferred or transformed).
In chemistry, energy is absorbed or released during reactions (endothermic and exothermic). In physics, forces do work and transfer energy between objects.
Energy is measured in joules (J).
